The 4-H Youth Educator works as a part of the 4-H Youth Development team to deliver hands-on programming utilizing established evidence based and/or research-based curricula.
Implementation of a positive youth development approach when working with both youth and adults in formal and non-formal educational environments is key.
Programming will primarily include youth audiences 5-19 years old, with support provided to adult volunteers, as needed.
Programming will take place throughout the county with area youth serving agencies, as well as via our county 4-H Program.
Program recruitment and promotion are also areas of emphasis.

Required Qualifications Associate degree and one year volunteer or work-related experience relevant to the role of the position.
(High school diploma or equivalency with 2 years volunteer or work experience may substitute).
Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Ability to carry supplies and equipment.
Ability to clearly communicate and to read and write in English.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of positive youth development principles.
Demonstrated ability to work with and involve youth and adults of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Highly developed sense of responsibility, sound judgement, ability to anticipate potential issues, handle multi-tasking, and work with confidential information.
Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and navigation with various browsers as well as Microsoft Office proficiency including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Publisher.
Preferred Qualifications Coursework in Youth Development or knowledge/experience/background preferred.
Experience working with youth ages 5-19.
Experience implementing the experiential learning model.
Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to youth audiences.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions Program Responsibilities: Program Delivery – 85 % Assist with outreach to target audiences.
Outreach mechanisms will include phone calls, written correspondence, flyers, news releases, radio programs and web-based media.
Assist with logistical coordination of event planning and delivery.
Events will include classroom instruction, workshops, meetings, contests, educational activities, and community events.
Deliver high quality 4-H Youth Development educational programs and events through clubs, 4-H independent members, afterschool events, youth serving community partners, and other venues with emphasis on 4-H mission mandate areas of STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math), Civic Engagement and Healthy Living.
Use established resources to provide standard responses to 4-H inquiries.
Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver programming.
Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner at all times.
Utilize existing program materials and educational framework, coordinate and teach engaging, hands-on programming.
Implement lesson plans using current and approved curricula and supplemental materials, and tailor appropriate programming based on identified participant needs.
Collaborate with community agencies that serve the target audience.
Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell, or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.
Program Evaluation – 5 % Assist with various program participants and stake holders to obtain program feedback/evaluation.
Administrative Responsibilities: Coordination/Operation – 5 % Maintain records of class participants, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program reporting process.
Maintain extreme confidentiality of participant information and data collected.
Submit program expense reports to Supervisor for review/approval in a timely manner.
Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as necessary.
Apply existing subject matter knowledge to coordinate, compile, assemble, and organize existing program resources into program and teaching materials.
Assist in utilizing effective marketing strategies in the promotion of programming efforts to include, but not limited to print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.
Assist with maintaining communication with constituents and the community through a variety of methods such as contributing educational articles to program newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, and website postings.
Compile, tally, and/or format evaluation data from program participants based on existing framework.
Assist with program evaluation by collecting evaluations and needs assessment data from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.
Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts.
This position may require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement – 5% In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions.
Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
